This product is brand new and is quite a full and complete course to get you some traffic to your website, blog, name capture page and so on.

Both free and paid-for traffic is covered and there’s a shed load of info here.
19 year old (makes you sick, doesn’t it?) George Brown is promising everything you need to drive massive traffic which is broken down into thirteen easy to follow action packed modules.

There are three big manuals which have all the process maps, diagrams and step by step instructions you’ll ever need.

One manual has all of the ways to get free traffic, one on paid traffic methods and the last on search engine optimisation and market research.

No course today is complete without video so there are over 35 videos featuring live, over George’s shoulder footage so that you can get the most out of each one. Each video has a written step by step instruction to compliment it.

George covers SEO, Syndication marketing, Video marketing, social network marketing, social media marketing, conversation marketing, buzz marketing, viral marketing, piggyback / integration marketing, Pay Per Click (PPC) and Adwords, Google content network, Facebook paid advertising and Pay Per View (PPV) and a super advanced ‘ninja’ module.

As you can tell, it’s right up to date and includes all the latest and totally new methods of driving traffic to your promotions.

There is an incredible 8 weeks money back guarantee in case you don’t like it, however, judging by the number genuine UK and US marketers agreeing that this course is a true, accurate and valuable course, I don’t think you’ll be getting any problems with it.

By genuine marketers I don’t mean all those gurus who are only interested in how much profit they can make on a joint venture but those who really CARE about their customers and who want to see them do well. Most of the so-called gurus lose interest in their individual customers once they’ve milked them for the buying price on the product until they move to the next ‘worthwhile’ profit maker.

The course is $197.00 one time payment. If you think that sounds a little pricey, don’t. Just take a look at Frank Kern’s List Control at around $2000.00 where I promise you that you’ll learn more from this course than you ever will with Mr. Kern’s.

This is the best value for money traffic course you’ll ever see. The videos are professional quality and the information is sound, accurate and will work if you do.

Highly recommended

This title originally came out some years ago but, as you’ll be aware, the Internet changes rapidly and what was appropriate one month can be way out of date a few months later.

So Rob Benwell has updated the title ‘Blogging To The Bank’, all set for getting your profits by blogging during 2010 and beyond.

Now, as with all books about having a blog, well, you’d think that you’d read it all and that there was no more to learn. However, BTTB by Rob Benwell is a refreshing breath of air when it comes to little snippets of information that you just never heard before.

I’ve been running tons of blogs over the years and, I must say, have leaned more from this book than all of the others put together.

Yes, it’s full of typos and bad grammar which you’d think would have been sorted by the fourth re-publish but, hey, the info is sound and that’s the main thing.

Obviously, nobody in charge bothered to proof read it before it went out to the masses.

There are five main key ‘Blogging commands’ that Rob Benwell ensures are in place for each blog project. He has ‘Long Term Blogs’ and ‘Short Term Blogs’ and how you use these in conjunction with one another is truly a ‘back-linking’ head turner. I often struggle with the back-linking part but BTTB sorts that out in just one chapter.

Most of what the book talks about is free to use so, no big payments are to be made before you get to benefit from the techniques and strategies. Yes, parting with some cash is expected but at least not hundreds of dollars or pounds.

One or two techniques of getting traffic to your site are ‘grey hat’ shall we say but it’s done tastefully so, not too much to worry about. Let’s just say they’re sneaky rather than any type of colored hat.

New sections added include Twitter though this section isn’t too long where the author allows you to go to his website to get the full details on how to use Twitter with a blog. Call it a bonus if you like.

BTTB gives details on your market research and keyword / keyphrase list and goes into enough details to get you going with it.

Domains and hosting are covered with links and the occasional screen shot to help you along. Much of this part of the book is pretty basic stuff.

As mentioned, there are two main types of blog considered and the explanation for short and long term blogs is covered thoroughly including step by step instructions on setting them up.

It’s all very well having a blog but, until it’s optimised for search engines, you’ll get little traffic, if any at all. Step 4 in BTTB process goes into detail of how and what you should do.

The ‘Text link sales’ section is crammed with useful links that I found, once clicked on, hard to leave the sites as they were new to me and very interesting. This is the sort of info you need in an eBook, not the filler usually associated with blogging books.

Private sponsors and banner ads has more useful resources.

From what starts off as a fairly tame book, as I got into the chapters, I found myself clicking recommended links in a frenzy to see what was being shown next. The tools available to enhance your blogging experience is mind boggling and very exciting.

It almost gets ridiculous as the author seemed to be saving the best till last, so to speak, even though I was only halfway through the book.

Blogging to the bank was becoming one of those books where you had to keep putting it down to try some of the techniques on your own blogs, right away, it was that exciting.

The newly added Web 2.0 strategies brings the book slap bang up to date with more links and strategies to enhance your SEO experience.

This section was worth the price of the book on it’s own. The refund rate on BTTB must be zero!
BTTB then looks at outsourcing. This is something I’ve not done on a big scale as I haven’t got enough going on to warrant it but, once you put some of this advice into action, you’ll NEED to outsource as you won’t be able to cope with the tasks involved. Much of it can be automated and the writer does show you how to do this but, overall, it’s enough to keep you very busy each day and outsourcing would be the way to go, for sure.

Selling your blogs is the final blogging tactic where you’re shown how to value your sites and when best to sell. I found this section very interesting and will put it into action. There is enough information crammed into this section that you can’t fail to make profits.

You finally get bonus sections where you can get thousands of free links to your site and which goes on to show you a trick or two about being a theme sponsor again, something that I am working on by making my own themes for businesses. I got the idea some time ago but BTTB has encouraged me to finally take action.

Another bonus is the free ‘tool kit’ you get at the end of the book with links to a whole host of useful add ons, plug-ins, themes and useful extras.

I had almost given up on boring eBooks, especially about blogging but Blogging to the bank has proven to me that the eBook isn’t dead, it’s alive and kicking where this book kicks hard, right where you need it in order for you to actually take action and start blogging to your bank.

Highly recommended and a pleasure and privilege to read. Full marks.

$37.00 with a ton of bonus items

If you’re like me, you’ve got dozens of Wordpress blogs and have to go from one to the other to configure any updates or add new content.

There are bits of software to help, like desktop applications where you can, maybe, add an article or image to any blog by uploading it from the program into your target blog but it’s still a lot of work each time this happens.

Finding that all my time was taken up with visiting blog after blog making adjustments and updating things, I decided to look for a way to control all of my blogs from just one location.

The answer lay in a newly updated script called WP ManagerDX.

You simply upload the script to your webspace, run the install program and configure it to your needs. You also get a content supply and updater in order to post content to your various web sites and blogs.

WP ManagerDX is run by Edna Melendez who also replies to support requests and, I can promise you, runs one of the best support systems I’ve seen. Very quick and efficient and has all the answers should you need help.

The program, which runs off of your own website, is easy to navigate and set up. You are given an installation guide and a full instruction book when you download the software after purchasing it.

You also receive a ‘Manage Content Module’ (auto-poster) which you install separately but which integrates with WP ManagerDX seamlessly. This add-on module will post content to your chosen site(s) automatically at pre-set times, if you so choose.

WP ManagerDX works best when you use it to install brand new Wordpress blogs but, in the most recent version (March 2010) you can simply add your existing blogs by typing in your Wordpress blog’s statistics. That being, site name, URL, username, password etc..

It can set up a new blog in seconds, it’s amazingly fast and accurate.

I listed about 20 blogs to begin with where WP ManagerDX would update Wordpress itself and /or plugins to the latest version automatically, according to my settings.

The software will create pages for you, too. Supposing you need a privacy policy, terms and conditions page and an ‘about me’ page on all your new sites but don’t want to have to repeatedly type these in or set them up. Just type the details once into WP ManagerDX and copy the set up to any other blogs you’d like to install. Then click ‘install all’ to have all the sites built in seconds.
One of the most annoying things I would have to do was finding all the plugins that I needed for each installation but now using WP ManagerDX I can simply have one version of each plugin and upload each one to as many or a selection of my sites as I please … this saves another headache each time.

Although a very simple program, it is a major solution to a life long problem where WP ManagerDX has a few more tricks up it’s sleeve but for me, updating, creating and loading content are it’s best features and, after using it for a short time, you’ll wonder why you didn’t get involved sooner … before you installed another few Wordpress blogs.

This latest version can work with your older blogs now, so there’s no excuse not to buy WP ManagerDX right away.

Find it here:
Highly recommended and one of those ‘must-have’ tools if you’re serious about your blogging.

XHeader has been available for free to those who purchased X-Site Pro website building software and to those who have been involved in any way with Paul Smithson the Internet marketer.

Basically, you got a few templates to make headers for your website. You could even download 500 extra headers if you signed up to Paul’s email newsletters.

The success behind X-Site Pro has been phenomenal with sales going through the roof and most Internet marketers using this software if they’re not using Wordpress or using it as well as Wordpress, like myself.

There is now a paid-for version of XHeader, which he’s called XHeader Pro. It now has a more niche subjects covered and an amazing 5000 header templates for you to choose from.

The great thing is, you can alter anything on each template to make it totally unique so, no need to worry that your site will look like someone else’s does.

You can elect to start with a blank and build your header up from there in any size, text font and use any image you have on your hard drive. There are special effects to add, too.

The software is very simple to use and creates top quality headers for your web pages.

I have one site that rotates the headers to give the same message but different view of my local area where I used XHeader Pro to create all of five different scenes. It took me just a few minutes to have them all up and rotating on the site, live (http://PooleCommunity.com).

There are video tutorials, frequently asked questions, a knowledgebase and a ticket system to help you get along with the software.

The price is $47.00 at time of writing but may be different once all the initial promotions are over, so hurry now if you’d like to have yourself a copy. I believe there is also a trial version if you’d like to test it out for yourself beforehand.

A complete PDF manual is available if, like me, you like a hard copy to refer to rather than try and focus on the on-screen versions that are hard to work with.

I find that themes and ready-made sites never have exactly what you’re looking for header wise and so you either have to put up with it and have the same as everyone else or, at last, start using X Header Pro which is easy to use and using it, you can come up with some fantastic designs and effects.

You can even start offering the ‘header making’ service to your own customers and start earning some money.

Full marks to Paul Smithson for this piece of software, it’s faultless and does what it says, makes really good headers for your web sites and blogs.

Recommended: XHeader Pro Site

I like this ebook, simple, to the point and very workable.

Now updated and with added ‘how to’ videos Kindle Profits Exposed is very appropriate because Amazon are promoting people’s books for all they’re worth.

As you probably know Kindle is an electronic book reader whereby you download a title, store it on your Kindle unit and then read it when ever or wherever you please. It’s got good battery life and therefore you’re able to read for many hours before the next recharge.

The Kindle can store around 150 books and this makes it a useful carrier for all your favourite book titles.

So, how does Kindle Profits Exposed help you earn money?

It helps by explaining what you need to do to get your own titles uploaded to the Amazon Kindle store, which is well advertised, and giving you your 30% per sale each time. Although, compared to Clickbank, where you get 50% or more, this doesn’t sound much, it soon adds up and books are promoted for you by Amazon making this a much more powerful platform.

Don’t be put off by the fact that you need to have your own book, either. You can use PLR (Private Label Rights) titles and rewrite them to make them unique and upload those if you want.

Or, better still in some cases, look for books that are already written but are out of copyright. With these books you can, if you please, upload them directly to Amazon with little to do by way of altering.

Kindle Profits Exposed is just $49.99 (£27.64 for UK customers as a special offer) on Clickbank and shows you how to find your book, how to write your book or how to choose one from any PLR source. You many already have plenty of PLR books on your computer’s hard drive so, how about using those? At last, you can turn them into cash.

Once up on Amazon, you can take things further by uploading your title to be sold via digital means through iPhones, iPad and other mobile devices. This is much more complicated and you need to ensure that your book is already up and selling before porting it to this mobile system.

Once on this system, though, you’ll be well away and earning super big profits.

The general idea is to have hundreds of books uploaded so you are getting a decent income. You can upload all your titles all at once but you’ll need to learn how to do this. Kindle Profits Exposed shows you how in it’s supplementary blueprint.

Using PLR products it should be no real problem adding to your list of titles. Using public domain sites and finding out of copyright titles will quickly help your book listing to grow.

This little package is great value for money and is one of the few ebooks that actually works and can bring in an income for the user.

Highly recommended, especially if you get in now while Kindle is fairly new and, if you’re reading this and you live in the UK, it’s only just getting exposure here from the start so, get in before anyone else and start earning profits from your very own publications.

If you have got your own totally original book, of course, simply convert it to PDF format and upload it now. It’ll be earning you profits before you know it.

Does this look familiar to you?: http://secure.hostgator.com/cgi-bin/affiliates/clickthru.cgi?id=kinger0813

Yes, you guessed it, it’s an affiliate link that you’re supposed to send visitors to with your promotions and marketing efforts. Ugly aren’t they? This is where some kind of cover needs to be used in order to make your link both memorable and easier for potential customers to type in.

This is just one task that ‘Powerlink Generator’ can cope with and it also keeps all your affiliate links in one, controllable place.

It’s been proven that links like the one above can kill your profits. However, make it shorter and understandable and click through’s can rocket. Putting the link into your newsletter emails etc. can be very off putting and even allow people to cut out your ID and put theirs in instead so, you lose your commissions and they gain them … great!

Powerlink Generator is a script that you install onto your website server (I do like this idea) and can be run by typing in your website URL, a slash and then the name of the folder where you have installed the software.

Once you’ve signed in you can list every affiliate link you have, enter the statistics URL along with username and password which gives you instant access to all your sales and click-through information.

Although Powerlink Generator has been around for a year or two, it has just been updated with more useful features. There is a squeeze page bypass feature which can be used to bypass any page, in fact, and a new URL cloaking (masking) feature where you no longer need to worry about your affiliate cookie not dropping onto the users hard drive.

There is also an ‘Exit Pop Up’ feature where you can advertise a second product with one click.
Another new feature is the ‘Instant Cash, Viral Promotion’ feature where you can optionally add a viral strip to the top or bottom of the destination page which contains your Powerlink Generator affiliate link. This feature is also handy if you’re just sending members to a page that isn’t selling anything … your affiliate promo can then be set to show when they get there.

My favourite new add-in, though, is the Bypass feature. This is useful for a number of reasons.
The main reason, for me, is if the affiliate vendor has a squeeze page that would ‘steal’ your customers details where all you get would be the commission but lose out on having the customer for life. However, using the Powerlink Generator ByPass feature, you can set YOUR affiliate link to, firstly, be cloaked and then head straight for the order page OR straight to YOUR OWN squeeze page and then onto the order page.

Another reason may be if the sales page sucks and you think you can do much better, direct the to your own sales page, bypassing the affiliate vendors and then onto their order page. You get better chance of the sale because your sales letter converts better, while you still keep commissions owed to you.

I must admit, I haven’t see 900% increase in sales yet but it definitely makes an improvement to your stats. You’ll no doubt notice that, out of all the affiliate links you have displayed, you don’t seem to earn any commissions. Well, install Powerlink Generator and that’ll all be a thing of the past as you can now keep an eye on every single statistic from your main panel and ensure you are paid when you should be.

The most difficult thing about the software is the installation but you are given step by step instruction along with a video. Following it to the letter, you should have no problems.

Recommended by me and, once you’ve entered all the data to begin with (all your existing affiliate links) it’s an absolute breeze to use.

$97.00 (£64.84)

Special offer obtainable $67 (£44.78) (attempt to close window for offer to appear)

Have you enjoyed the last few ebooks that you’ve read about the latest scheme that will make you wealthy or even [...]

DVD & Bonus Workbook Review

Have you enjoyed the last few ebooks that you’ve read about the latest scheme that will make you wealthy or even a millionaire?

Most Internet marketers have ‘suffered’ at the hands of writers who promise you the earth from their website sales letters where you pay out your hard earned cash to download the latest, hottest and fortune making publication, piece of software or business service.

Then, after reading the bumph, you think well, what now?

The thing is, unless you actually do something, just reading the book or learning how to use the software etc., nothing will happen. You won’t become successful in what you do by just taking a book in your hands and reading it, no matter what the author promises in the aforementioned sales letter.

Yet, so many people seem to think that, once they’ve purchased the next ‘get rich quick’ thing, that’s all they need to do, they feel satisfied that they’re up to date but, after a time, realise that it’s made not a tiny notch of a difference to their success or financial situation (apart from being that much poorer after paying out for the product).

This brings me to the new title from Bill Rice-Johnston which is different from the run-of-the-mill book, which is delivered in hard copy to your door with an accompanying DVD.

Now I know that the book is meant to be accompanying the DVD but, for the reasons I’ll come to below, I’m having the book as the main product and the DVD as the bonus. I didn’t get the audio CD with my review copy but, I believe it’s the audio of the DVD or the workbook.

‘In A Right Place’ may not be the most inspiring of titles compared to most Internet marketing publications but all is explained on the DVD. Once you become ‘in that right place’ you’ll start to become more successful and your dreams will become a reality. So is this really the case?

Well, the sub-title of In A Right Place tells us more; “Discover the secret ALL successful people use to launch themselves to dizzying heights of business success and a millionaire lifestyle …”.
Ah, now that’s more like it, but does it deliver?

Bill Rice-Johnston is an older (I’m sure he won’t mind me saying that) and wiser man than your average Internet marketing book author where you do get the feeling that he has walked his talk and therefore is totally qualified to teach you about where this ‘right place’ is.

Bill has studied what successful people have done, what they think and how they go about their lives. His book isn’t a system of beating Adwords, getting traffic to your site, Search engine optimisation or building websites, no, it’s about a way of life and how you should be thinking, that ‘In A Right Place’ deals with.

What I liked about this book is the different approach to teaching that it promotes. Rather than just tell you what you should be doing, it encourages you to get writing, right from the off. A huge amount of the book is taken up with lined pages or blank pages for you to jot your ideas and answers down. Don’t let this put you off, though.

I read it through first of all thinking, well, this can’t be up to much as it’s a workbook that I personally have to fill in. However, when I actually started filling in the blanks and went along with the writer’s requests I started to realise that I’d never got this far with a book before … The Bill Rice-Johnston magic had started to work.

The author suggests getting yourself a ‘guru’ who you can trust. He explains how you know when you can trust one. A guru is someone who’s already successful, wealthy and living their dream.
All through the book, Bill Rice-Johnston helps you to start believing in what successful people believe in and think and do what they think and do.

All successful people have similarities in their lives and In A Right Place helps you find them and teaches what you need to do in order for you to gain those similarities.

There’s plenty of serious stuff here but the odd sense of humour slides in every so often which helps reading the book along nicely.

A lot of the ideas here I’ve heard several times before but the difference is, this publication gets you working with it and writing, thinking and doing it all. Simply by organising your time and keeping a diary up to date can be a boost to your daily success rate.

Confidence, five year plans, entrepreneurial ethics, guru hunting, sleeping properly, focus and planning are all covered, some in great detail so, if you’re looking for a book that keeps you involved from cover to cover, then In A Right Place could be right up your street.

By the way, there’s a very nice surprise hidden within the pages of Bill’s book … I won’t give it away here but I think you’ll like it.

So, a quick mention about the DVD that comes delivered with the book.

There are no special effects, panning, cut-ins or green screens here, no, it’s just our Bill and what I assume to be an autocue of some sort. Bill does not look into the camera at all and, to be honest, it looks most off-putting. The whole movie is Bill explaining everything he knows about getting into your ‘right place’ and takes the viewer very slowly through every aspect.

I found the book a lot more enjoyable but, if you listen to what is being said, it’ll hold your interest to make the DVD a valuable add-on. I feel that it didn’t need the visual, the CD audio would have sufficed.

I found myself waiting for a cut-away to some bullet points or something, anything to break up the presentation to make it entertaining and to keep the views attention but, alas, it wasn’t forthcoming.
I wasn’t going to let this spoil my overall thoughts on the package though, as In A Right Place is a great read, giving you plenty of work to do which should bring out the entrepreneur in many readers for years to come.

Recommended reading and listening but not viewing I’d say.
Contents: Workbook, DVD, CD, email support, 30 day telephone consultation, 30 day money back guarantee.

The guarantee allows you to keep the workbook and audio CD but you must return the DVD. I would have had this around the other way.

Send back the workbook and CD and keep the DVD as, the workbook is far too valuable to my mind. You’ll want to keep the whole package, though, I’m sure.

A ClickBank tool that ensures your blog is built for perfect Clickbank optimisation.

There is a up-front payment and then monthly payments to keep this online tool active for you.
CB Predator is one of those tools that are fine if you’re definitely going to use it but not good value for money if you truly don’t use it to it’s full potential.

I’m very wary of paying out monthly fees for online tools as I find that 90% of those I subscribe to are just not used enough. My fault, I know but it all soon mounts up. So, is CB Predators worth the continuous outlay?

It’s all about review sites, Wordpress plugins and making your newly built review site unique enough for the search engines to rank you higher than the gazillions of others who are, no doubt, using the same template as you.

These automatic systems are OK if you can make them different enough from anyone else to help bring in the profits but, should you choose to not bother, you don’t have a hope in hell of ranking your site. Duplicate content issues come into play and you’d be wasting your time.

This is a situation that CB Predator makers have thought very closely about.

They present you with a control panel where you can choose which (high selling) Clickbank product to have as your featured review on a site that you have chosen the domain name for.

The Wordpress platform is used and is automatically installed once you’ve selected your options.
So, supposing you’d like to review ‘Pregnancy Miracle’ for example, a book about becoming pregnant if you’re having difficulties getting pregnant (see www.pregnancymiraclereviewsite.com for example of product but made using a different system). CB Predator will give example sites with the same review on each one.

Select the one you’d like to use.

Then you’ll be taken to an editing suite whereby you can add, delete, alter and generally mess around with the template until it’s how you like it.

Editing the actual text of the review is the most important thing to do and is made easy by giving you just one paragraph at a time to rewrite and make unique.

Interestingly, this is how I rewrite articles myself. I open the page and divide each paragraph with a space and italicise it. Then, using standard text I rewrite underneath each paragraph and, when completed, simply copy and paste all standard (rewritten) text to a new document. This ensures that the article is now unique to me.

Using The Best Spinner, I can then spin that new, unique, article and create as many as I please from that.

CB Predator takes your newly created text and saves it allowing you to enter your web server details in order to publish your site.

This is where I had problems.

After spending an hour or so on creating my review site, I carefully read the instructions before publishing it to my web server.

‘Success’, my site had been published and was ready to view.

Only on visiting the site, it didn’t exist.

I checked in Hostgator, my CPanel. I checked using my FTP software; it wasn’t in place anywhere there.

What had happened?

I’ve no idea, a ticket to support got no personal reply, just an automated receipt.

Although the system control panel inside CB Predators informed me that I had indeed built a site where it was listed, I couldn’t edit it, just view it. But, on viewing it, it was just a blank page.

Not being able to edit it, all my hard work was lost.

I wrote to support again. This time not even a receipt was received.

I’d heard that they were having ‘running in problems’ such as happens every so often when a product is launched before it is properly ready.

CB Predator must have been about 40% ready. The support, training, features, add-ons etc. etc . were clearly not all there or, if they were there, were not working correctly.

This was frustrating as I’d paid the full price to join and would have had to start paying the monthly fee if I’d had continued to subscribe.

Although I tried several times, the system was clearly unusable.

Judging by emails from those promoting CB Predators, they were having extremely serious problems with the whole thing.

So, judging it and reviewing the system here would be unfair as they will no doubt fix all the errors before they re-launch later this month. At the time of writing, they are about 80% there with new training, more features (the main one is to be able to make brand new ‘blank’ sites for your own ideas) and better support.

The idea behind CB Predator is fine but nothing that you can’t do yourself if you have time. CB Predator simply speeds up the process by automatically building the site(s) for you instantly rather than you having to upload each one individually.

If this is worth $37.00 per month and $67.00 start up fee, then go for it … but not until July 2010 as, by then, they should be up and running and firing on all cylinders instead of limping along as it’s doing now.

This was one of the genius advertisements developed by David Ogilvy for Rolls Royce in the initial days of O&M which was a huge success. In this book, David Ogilvy talks about advertising, what works, what doesn’t. This book also talks about how to run an advertising agency, getting clients and the importance of research. The book concludes with a discussion of advertising in America vs. some other countries, and also the people who shaped the face of modern advertising.

All in all, as David Ogilvy himself mentions:
“This is not a book for readers who think they already know all there is to be known about advertising. It is for young hopefuls – and veterans who are still in search of ways to improve their batting average at the cash registers.”

For the purpose of this book review, I have divided the discussion into three parts. The first part discusses all about advertising agencies, how to run them and how to fetch clients. The second part talks all about various types of advertisements and what makes them click?

The final part talks about Ogilvy’s view on marketing.

Jobs in Advertising
In his book David talks about various jobs in advertising. He mentions that in the initial years:

“What you learn is more important than what you earn.” Some of the opportunities available are as follows.
1. Copywriters
2. Art Directors
3. Account Executives
4. Researchers
5. Media
6. Chief Executive Officer

Here David also mentions certain tips to keep in mind while applying for a job, which may be summarized as follows.

1. Spelling the name of the client right.
2. Identifying the type of job applying for.
3. Being specific and factual.
4. Be personal, direct & natural.
5. Proposing a specific next step.

Running an advertising Agency
As per David, hiring plays a very critical role in determining the success of an advertising agency. The importance that David gives to hiring can be very well justified by the fact that whenever a person is appointed to head of office in the O&M chain, David sends a set of Russian dolls, in which a series of dolls are inserted in a doll slightly bigger ones. In the smallest doll, David has the following message:

“If each of us hires people who are smaller than we are, we shall become a company of dwarfs, but if each of us hires people who are bigger than we are, O&M will become a company of giants.”

In addition David restrained from hiring friends, client’s children, own children or people who have been successful in other fields.

In addition he also offered the following tips regarding the same.
1. Never allow two people to do a job which one can do.
2. Never summon people to office, instead go to see them in their office unannounced.
3. Communicate verbally, if you want to get into action.
4. Avoid using products, which compete with your client products. (When David got his Rolls Royce account, he followed the same rule)
5. Never allow yourself the luxury of writing letters of complaint. It would become very difficult to ever get their account.

Getting clients
As per David, the easiest way to get clients is to do good advertising. Some tips which David offers to advertising agencies pursuing clients are as follows.
1. Mix with the client teams in the meeting and avoid sitting in groups.
2. Listen, listen & listen
3. Tell your client about your weak points, before they can find it out for you.
4. Never pay a commission to an outsider who offers to introduce new business.
5. Try advertising yourself, it works.

Producing advertising that sells.
In the book David mentions that wrong advertising can often reduce the sales of a product. Hence it is very important for us to understand what can make an advertisement click.

1. Do your homework – Study the product that you are going to advertise. E.g. When O&M got the Mercedes account; David sent a team to Daimler-Benz headquarters in Stuttgart. They spent three weeks taping interviews with engineers. From this came a campaign of long, factual advertisements which increased Mercedes sales in the United States from 10,000 cars a year to 40,000.

2. Positioning – David defined positioning as
“what the product does, and who it is for” .
David chose to position Dove as a toilet bar for women with dry skin, and it’s still working for more than 25 years.
3. Brand Image – Every advertisement should be thought of as a contribution to the brand image i.e. the personality of the product.
4. The big idea – Big ideas for advertisement are hard to find, but any advertisement with a big idea is bound to work. To recognize whether you have the big idea we would need to answer the following questions
a. Did it make you gasp when you first saw it?
b. Do you wish you thought of it yourself?
c. Is it unique?
d. Does it fit the strategy to perfection?
e. Could it be used for thirty years?
5. Make the product a hero – Whenever you can, you should try to make the product a hero.
6. Repeat your winners – If you are lucky enough to write a good advertisement, repeat it until it stops selling. As per David we are not advertising to a standing army but to a moving parade.
7. Pursuit of knowledge – As per David the only difference between good advertisers and the not so good advertisers is that the good one knows more. Research before advertising goes a long way to ensure that the advertisement succeeds.
8. Cult of creativity – In advertisement terminology David says that
‘If it doesn’t sell, it isn’t creative” .
An advertisement which has an original idea but does not succeed is of no use. You should be trying to make the advertisements which would sell and not just try being original.

Print Advertising.
Agency people find making television commercials far more exciting than making advertisements for newspapers and magazines. David goes on to uncork some of the things which he has learnt about print advertising over the years.

1. Headlines – For lanolin as a cure for baldness “
Have you ever seen a bald headed sheep “?
For a pile remedy
“Send us your dollar and we’ll cure your piles, or keep your dollar and keep your piles “.

Both of these are from the David’s favourite headlines of advertisements.
As per David, on an average five times as many people read the headlines as the body copy. So it does make sense to pay special attention while creating headlines. The headlines which work best are the ones which promise the user a benefit. Also the headline which contains news is sure-fire. In addition specifics work better than generalities and when we put our headlines in quotes we increase recall by an average of 28%.

2. Illustrations – The author described various ways of making illustrations working for an advertisement, some of the important ones are as follows.
a. Subject of the illustration is important.
b. The kind of photographs which work hardest are those which arouse the reader’s curiosity.
c. Make your package the subject of the illustration.
d. Photographs attract more attention than drawings.
e. The use of characters known to people is better.
f. It pays to demonstrate the end result of the product.
g. Keep the illustrations as simple as possible
h. Do not assume that the subjects which will interest us, would interest the consumer.
i. Historical subjects bore majority of the readers.
j. Advertisements in colour are not as memorable than the ones in black and white.

3. Body Copy – Whether or not a person reads a body copy basically depends on the kind of product you are advertising, and how many people have been enticed into your ad by your illustration and headline. In addition the following points should be kept in mind while creating a body copy.
a. Average readership of Body Copy is around 5%
b. Write your ad in the form of a story and a language which is easy to understand for a common man.
c. Avoid using analogies as user, at times, is unable to complete those analogies.
d. Testimonials generally have a higher recall rate.
e. For great products long copy works best.
f. The more facts you tell, the more you sell.
4. Layouts – The major point which needs to be kept in mind while designing your advertisement is that the headlines below illustration are read 10% more than headlines above illustration.
5. Typography – The main point to derive from this section is that white on black is relatively difficult to read compared to black on white.

Making TV commercials that sell.
In today’s age TV commercials plays a very critical role in the success of any kind of advertising campaign. As per the author some of the advertisement which fare above average are.
1. Humour
2. Slice of life
3. Testimonials (those showing loyal users)
4. Demonstrations which shows how well your product performs.
5. Problem solutions
6. Talking heads
7. Characters
8. Reason why
9. News
10. Emotion
“

and those which fail are as follows:
1. Testimonials by celebrities.
2. Cartoons
3. Musical vignettes

Miracle of research in advertising.
As per the author advertising people who ignore research are as dangerous as generals who ignore decodes of enemy signals. In his book David suggests 18 miracles research can perform for you.
1. It can measure the reputation of your company among consumers.
2. Research can estimate the sales of new product, and the advertising expenditures required to achieve maximum profits.
3. Research can get consumer reactions to a new product when it is still in the conceptual stage.
4. Once a product is ready for market, research can tell you how consumers rate it compared with the products they are now buying.
5. Research can tell you what formulation, flavour, fragrance and colour would appeal most to the consumers.
6. Research can find out, which of the several package designs will sell best.
7. Research can help you decide the optimum positioning for your product.
8. Research can define your target audience.
9. It can find out what factors are most important in the purchase decision.
10. Research can determine what line extension is likely to sell best.
11. Research can warn you when consumers show signs of finding an established product less desirable than it once was.
12. Research can save you time and money by reading your competitor’s test market.
13. Research can determine the most persuasive promise.
14. Research can tell you, which of several premiums will work best.
15. Research can tell you whether your advertisement communicates what you want it to communicate.
16. Research can tell you which of the several advertisement commercials will sell the best.
17. Research can tell you how many people read your advertisement and how many remember them.
18. Research can settle arguments.

Various aspects of marketing, which play an important role in how a product may fare, are as follows
1. As per David 35% of the sales come from products which did not exist 10 years back. Hence developing new products is essential.
2. Naming the product also plays an essential role in determining its future.
3. Sleeping Beauties – Products like Hershey, which were working quite well without advertising. Advertising gave it a big boost.
4. Don’t waste time on problem babies, i.e. instead of trying to revive sick products, worry about making successful products more successful.
5. Don’t spend too much on promotions as generally they give only a short term kick to the product.
6. Don’t stop marketing in recession, it will kill the product. Studies of last six recessions have demonstrated that companies which do not cut back their advertising budgets achieve greater increases in profits than companies which do cut back.
7. Target the heavy users.(As mentioned in the book 14% of the people who drink Gin consume 80% of all the Gin)

Through the medium of this book, the author has offered various tips on advertising, how to run marketing companies, advertising for print, advertising for television. The book is supported by various advertisements along with their detailed descriptions.

Since the book has been written a little while back, it gives maximum well on the print media and also does good justice to television and radio. There is no mention of the Internet as an advertising media, which in today’s generation undoubtedly cannot be missed out.

To conclude, the book is definitely a must for all who are interested in the fields of advertising, or want to pursue a career in advertising. In addition the book would also be interesting to regular readers (though some chapters may not be required by them) who want to gain insights to advertising.

I must confess that in recent months I haven’t give Twitter the time that I used to give it.

Why?

Well, even with my 1000s of followers, it made little difference to my bottom line when I consider all the hours that I put into updating it, even with the occasional automatic updating software.

I know that many of my subscribers have felt the same way. Just work out how many hours you spend messing with Twitter and see what you get back in sales or traffic to your website.

Now, in more recent months, I’ve been hearing about a piece of kit called ‘Twittollower’ which is an online system for getting you followers very quickly. Yes, yes, I know what you’re thinking, the same as I did when my inbox started filling up with offers to go and read about the software pre-launch, I thought, NO! not again … more Twitter stuff that doesn’t work.

Twitter began getting very funny about people who would follow others by the truckload hoping that they would follow back. I don’t blame them either.

The problem was, the followers were not targeted very accurately to your niche and all you ended up with were loads of followers who weren’t really interested in you or your products.

So, seeing Twittollower launched on 1st Feb 2010 made me wonder what all the fuss was about, after all, it was just another ‘quick fix’ to get followers, wasn’t it?

I decided to sign into it after a regular student of mine gave me his honest opinion after I asked him what it was really like. There was I waiting for him to tell me that it was crap when he started to give me the run down of how each day went by with a noticeable difference to his sign-ups and response rates after posting to the followers that Twittollower had gained him.

Unique visitors from Twitter were appearing on his statistics for his blogs and websites.

He was even able to install a plugin to his Wordpress blog that automatically sent his posts to Twitter in order to have something for his followers to read and also have links for them to follow.

The good thing is, you simply don’t have to look for followers, the Twittollower system find them for you based on your niche.

All you do is open a brand new Twitter account, do nothing with it yet, open a Twittollower account, follow three simple steps and leave it.

You still make the usual posts to Twitter but your followers will come in their droves.

I decided to sign up on behalf of Internet Marketing Bugle readers to see if it was worthwhile before they invested in it themselves.

What was the result?

Fascinating, to say the least.

People were following me immediately and, what’s more, taking an interest in my posts.

Each hour the number of followers increased.

24hrs on and my following figure stands at 120 and I didn’t do a thing as Twittollower did it all for me, sending traffic to my site, non stop.

I have taken screen shots to prove to people that this really was the case.

I have made a few tweets, of course. Although they have been mostly generated by a plugin on my WordPress blog that tweets an announcement that I’ve made a new post. You’re shown this plugin by the nice people at Twittollower, it’s free to install and use.

Finally, if you’re thinking that you could do what Twittollower does, only for free, well, here are two alternative views;

The first is that while you can add followers for free, adding over 130 per day would be both mind-numbingly boring and time-consuming. I certainly wouldn’t consider it a good use of my time and I’m sure most effective marketers would feel the same.

Free has its place, but not if getting free costs you in other ways.

The second view is that you have to remember that Twittollower guarantee to get you 2000+ new followers each month.

If you think of each follower as a sales lead, that means each lead has about a 3 cents acquisition cost. And that is outrageously cheap!

Of course, once you have them, you have them forever, so you pay to get them once, but can profit from them over and over again.

+ Latest update: 1557 followers, twenty days from opening my account.
